Privacy Policy
Chodesh for Mac, iPhone and iPad · Last updated September 30, 2026
The short version: Chodesh collects no data. It has no accounts, analytics, ads or tracking. Your settings stay on your device, and your events stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. If you choose to contact us, we use your message to reply.
What stays on your device
Your settings (language, city, how dates are shown, widget options) are stored only on your Mac, iPhone or iPad, in the app's own storage, shared with its widgets. They're never uploaded or shared.
Your events
The birthdays, memorials and other dates you add under My Events are stored on your device. If iCloud is on, they also sync between your own devices through your iCloud account (Apple's iCloud key-value storage). They go to your iCloud, not to us: we can't see them.
Your city
Chodesh never asks for your location. You type the name of a city, which Apple's map service looks up to find its coordinates and time zone; sunset, candle lighting and havdalah are then worked out on your device.
Reminders
Reminders for your events are local notifications, scheduled on your device at the time you choose. No server is involved. Chodesh asks for permission to send notifications only when you turn a reminder on.
When Chodesh uses the internet
- City search: the name you type is sent to Apple's map service to find the place.
- Update check (Mac): the Mac app asks Apple's public App Store lookup service whether a newer version exists. The request includes the app's identifier, not anything about you.
- Calendar subscriptions (optional): if you add the Hebrew dates or holidays calendar to Apple Calendar or Google Calendar, your calendar app downloads it from our calendar service. The address carries only the options you chose: the language, the years, and Israel or the Diaspora.
- Reviews: now and then the app may show Apple's standard "rate this app" prompt, which Apple handles.
- Contact and review links open this website or the App Store in your browser.
Like any request on the internet, the servers involved see your IP address as part of delivering the response. We don't use it to identify you.
Contact messages
If you use the contact form, your name (if provided), email address, topic, app version and message are sent to our contact service and forwarded to us by email. The service also uses your IP address and browser type to help block spam. We use this information to reply to you, not for marketing. You can also email [email protected] directly.
The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks whether a submission is from a person.
This website
This site has no analytics or ads. The demo remembers the city and options you pick in your own browser's local storage, which never leaves your device. The Hebrew pages load the Heebo font from Google Fonts. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may process standard technical logs, like IP addresses, to deliver the site and keep it secure.
Children
Chodesh doesn't collect personal data. Please ask a parent or guardian before sending a contact message if you're a child.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
